The 8th international literature festival in Berlin takes place from 24 September to 5 October 2008. Organisers of this highly respected event are the Berlin Festivals Association and the Peter Weiss Foundation for Art and Politics. It is funded by the Capital Cultural Fund and comes under the patronage of the German UNESCO Commission.
In 2008, the international literature festival will once again encompass contemporary poetry and prose, author Q&As, political debates, books for children and teenagers and arthouse cinema. The up-and-coming writers that feature here deserve their place alongside established greats from the literary world. Africa is the focus for the 8th international literature festival in Berlin. African literature will come under the spotlight and there will be an exploration of the continent's historical and political background.
The festival programme also includes concerts, staged readings, film screenings and exhibitions.
The main venue for events will be the Berlin Festivals House on Schaperstrasse.
Many events, however, will be hosted at other locations across Berlin, thanks to support from a variety of cooperation partners.
At the readings in the Berlin Festivals House (Schaperstrasse 24, 10719 Berlin), writers will first read extracts from their works in the original language. Then, after actors have performed the German translation, moderators and interpreters facilitate a question and answer session between the audience and authors.
